Grit Coffee began its journey in 2008 near the University of Virginia with a simple vision: to create a space where exceptional coffee and a welcoming atmosphere come together to serve the local community. From that single shop, we’ve grown into the largest independent coffee shop operator in Virginia, fueled by an expansive roasting operation – yet our core values remain unchanged.

We provide spaces for work, rest, and connection—whether you’re a student seeking a study haven, a professional in need of a mid-day boost, or friends catching up over a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

We carefully source our coffees from dedicated farmers around the world, building relationships that ensure we deliver only the best. Our talented roasting team meticulously crafts each batch in our Charlottesville, Virginia-based roastery, bringing out the unique flavors and qualities of every coffee. The result is a cup of coffee that is not only delicious but also tells a story of passion and dedication.

Since opening that first shop, we’ve expanded to nine locations across Virginia, including six in Charlottesville, two in Richmond, and our newest in Williamsburg.
